Stay friendly – a smile can work wonders
TRAIN TRAVEL – FOR SURE, SAFELY!
Look. Listen. Help.
Courage comes in many forms – and sometimes it just takes a little bit of bravery to stand up for others. To make sure you and your fellow passengers travel safely and comfortably, we’ve put together some practical tips. For more togetherness. For a safer journey for all.

Talk to us
You’ve got a bad feeling or you notice something unusual? Don’t hesitate – speak directly to our train staff. Together, we’ll find a solution. You’re not alone!

Stay calm and respectful
Even when things get a little stressful: staying calm and treating others – fellow passengers and train staff – with respect is key. It helps everyone reach their destination more relaxed.

Encourage others to help
Maybe other passengers haven’t noticed the situation yet. Invite them to get involved. The more people become aware of a problem, the faster it can be solved.

Get help in an emergency
In some situations, it’s safer not to step in directly. That’s when it’s important to get help: you can contact the federal police 24/7 free of charge at 0800 6 888 000.
HERO STORY – TELL US ABOUT YOUR MOMENT OF COURAGE
Civil courage starts with you. Whether it's a bold act or a small gesture with a big impact – every effort makes a difference.
When did you go above and beyond yourself?
Who was there for you when you needed help?
What have you experienced on a train that you’ll never forget?
We’re looking for real stories from real people. Tell us about your personal hero moment – whether you took action or someone stood up for you.
How to share your story:
Send us your story directly via Instagram
Or simply write us an email
We’re excited to hear your story. Because courage is contagious – and inspires others to become role models too.
STAY SAFE – NOT JUST ON THE TRAIN
Safety matters at the platform and at level crossings too. Look out for yourself and others.
- Don’t stand too close to the platform edge
- Only cross tracks at designated areas
- Trains can pass quietly and quickly – up to 230 km/h!
- Stay behind the white safety line
- No track photos and no daredevil stunts on train cars – life-threatening danger from overhead power lines!
AVOID CONFRONTATIONS
On certain days, train stations can become very crowded – for example, during sports events or festivals. If a situation feels unsafe, it’s better to keep your distance from large or conspicuous groups and avoid unnecessary confrontation.
Discrimination, violence or vandalism: staying alert and speaking up for others helps create a safer environment. Sometimes civil courage takes a lot of bravery. But remember – don’t put yourself in danger, and encourage others to help too. Together, we’re stronger.
LET SOMEONE WALK YOU HOME
Stay safe – not just on the train! Especially at night, many people feel uncomfortable on their way home. It helps to have someone to talk to. If you feel that way too and don’t want to walk home alone at night, you can use the Heimwegtelefon (Walk-Me-Home Phone). Volunteers will stay on the phone with you until you arrive home safely.
You can reach the Heimwegtelefon across Germany at: 030 12074182. More info: heimwegtelefon.net
