At the ticket machine
From now on, it is no longer possible to purchase tickets on board oberpfalzbahn trains. Tickets must be purchased before the start of your journey at one of the ticket machines located along the route.
Route Map with Ticket Machine
Why is ticket sales on the RB 27, RB 28 and RB 29 lines of the Chamer network being switched to ticket machines?
The ticket machines were ordered by the responsible transport authority, the Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft (BEG), and complement the Oberpfalzbahn’s sales concept. The RB 23 line was the first to be converted. From the timetable change on 14 December 2025, the RB 27, RB 28 and RB 29 lines will follow.
What should I do if my station does not have a ticket machine?
In this case, you can purchase your ticket online via bahn.de or through an app (e.g. DB Navigator, the WOHIN·DU·WILLST app or the VGN shop). Alternatively, the ticket can be bought in advance at one of our service points.
What should I do if the ticket machine is out of order?
If the ticket machine is not working, the ticket must be purchased digitally – for example via the DB Navigator, the WOHIN·DU·WILLST app or the VGN shop. Tickets must be purchased before boarding the train.
Faults can be reported directly to the customer service staff or online via the ticket machine fault report form. Each machine also displays the contact details for reporting faults on a metal plate.
What happens if no ticket is purchased in advance?
According to the current fare and transport regulations of Die Länderbahn GmbH DLB (§ 11 paragraph 1a), an increased transportation fee must be paid if no valid ticket or travel authorization is available at the start of the journey.
Why must the ticket be purchased before the start of the journey?
As of 14 December 2025, boarding the trains operated by Die Länderbahn GmbH DLB in the oberpfalzbahn and waldbahn networks is only permitted with a valid ticket. This follows a nationwide regulation within the framework of the Deutschland‑Tarif.
How can I pay at the ticket machines?
- Coins (5 cents to €2)
- Banknotes (€5 to €50)
- Girocard, Visa, Mastercard
For a barrier-free journey, an early registration is required if assistance with boarding or alighting is needed. The mobility centre should be informed at least 24 hours in advance.
Mobilitätszentrale (MSZ)
More Information:
Monday to Friday 06:00 to 22:00,
Saturday to Sunday 08:00 to 20:00
As an alternative to registering by phone or in writing, booking – including the required assistance services – can be carried out via an accessible online form.
Which information is required for registration?
For registration, we require the following information:
- Name and address of the traveling person (and email address, if applicable)
- Telephone number for potential follow‑up questions
- Mobility aids (type of wheelchair, weight, dimensions)
- Travel date, departure or arrival time, or train number
Is boarding the replacement bus service barrier‑free?
Passengers with reduced mobility can generally be transported. However, without prior registration, it cannot be guaranteed that a suitable bus (e.g., low‑floor) will be available at the right time and place. Therefore, the journey should always be registered with the Mobility Service Center in advance.
What assistance services are available at the stations?
To facilitate easier access to our trains, many regional and long‑distance stations across Germany are equipped with lifting platforms or ramps. In addition, numerous stations provide support from staff or volunteers of the station missions and other social service organizations.
However, since not every station can offer assistance at all times, we recommend contacting our Mobility Service Center before your journey to check whether boarding, alighting, or transfer assistance is available at your destination station at the desired time. Further information about stations can be found in the Bahnland Bayern station database.
What barrier-free equipment is available on the Oberpfalzbahn Regio-Shuttles?
We aim to provide all passengers with the most accessible and comfortable travel experience possible. Our Regio-Shuttle RS1 vehicles feature a 65% low-floor area with a low entry height of 600 mm, as well as wide, double-leaf doors (1,300 mm). All vehicles are equipped with a wheelchair lift (maximum weight 250 kg). The accessible entry point is clearly marked with a wheelchair symbol on the corresponding door.
Directly at the entrance, there is a multifunctional area with designated seats for passengers with severe disabilities – these are always the first two seats next to the entrance door, marked with a pictogram (walking stick or pregnant woman). Spaces for wheelchairs and pushchairs are also indicated in the multifunctional area.
The vehicles are equipped with an accessible toilet. The transportation of electric wheelchairs or particularly large wheelchairs may be restricted. Wheelchairs weighing more than 250 kg cannot be transported.
For a safe and comfortable journey, we therefore recommend registering the transport of wheelchairs in advance with the mobility centre. Please note: Assistance by our service staff during boarding and alighting can only be ensured if registered beforehand.
What barrier-free features are available on the Oberpfalzbahn Lint vehicles?
Our LINT vehicles feature at least one step-free entrance with a low entry height of 600 mm, wide automatic doors and mobile ramps. The multifunctional area offers up to four designated wheelchair spaces. The accessible toilet can be reached directly from the wheelchair area and is designed according to current standards. The vehicles are suitable for transporting electric wheelchairs up to 300 kg.
Wheelchair access:
This entrance is clearly marked with a wheelchair symbol on the corresponding door. Please note: Assistance from our service staff during boarding and alighting can only be guaranteed if requested in advance via the mobility centre.
Spaces for pushchairs and passengers with severe disabilities:
- Pushchairs: The multifunctional area includes designated spaces that can be shared with the wheelchair area. Priority is given to wheelchairs and pushchairs over bicycles and luggage.
- Passengers with severe disabilities: The first two seats directly behind the entrance door are designated as priority seats for passengers with reduced mobility. These seats are marked with pictograms (e.g. walking stick or pregnant woman symbol) and offer additional comfort and proximity to the entrance.
In the multifunctional area, designated spaces for bicycles are available. The bicycle pictogram on the entrance doors indicates the access point. Bicycles must be secured using the straps provided.
Can a bicycle be taken on board the train?
Multifunctional areas are available where bicycles can be transported in limited capacity. These areas are marked on the outside with a bicycle symbol. Bicycles may be taken on board if sufficient space is available and with a valid additional ticket. Pushchairs and passengers with reduced mobility (e.g. wheelchair users) have priority when using the designated spaces. There is no entitlement to bicycle transport.
All further information can be found in our conditions of carriage.
Can an e‑bike be taken on the train?
Yes, e‑bikes with a power rating of up to 250 watts may be taken on board. However, the battery must remain installed in the bike and may not be removed or charged due to fire safety regulations.
Can an e‑scooter or folding bike be taken on the train?
Folding bikes and electric scooters can be taken on board free of charge when folded.
Are there times when taking bicycles on board is difficult?
Especially on weekends, during holiday periods, and at peak commuter times, our trains are often heavily occupied, making it frequently impossible to take bicycles on board. We therefore recommend avoiding peak times whenever possible. For guidance on travel times that are generally more suitable for bicycle transport, our customer service center will be happy to assist you.
Further information can be found in the conditions of carriage and fare regulations.
In the children’s area of our trains, even long journeys become an enjoyable and entertaining experience for our youngest passengers. At the large play modules, children easily lose track of time and stay happily occupied, even on longer trips. Parents can already see on the platform where the children’s area is located in the train: Küko – the Oberpfalzbahn mascot – shows the way.
The map showing the pushchair accessibility of Bavarian railway stations provides a quick overview of which stations are accessible for passengers with pushchairs.
Dogs and other pets are also welcome on our trains. For a pleasant journey for both humans and animals, special guidelines apply to the transport of pets.
Do small dogs or other small animals need a ticket?
Small dogs and other small pets (up to the size of a domestic cat) do not require a ticket if they are transported in an appropriate carrier.
What regulations apply for larger dogs?
Out of consideration for other passengers, dogs must be kept on a leash and wear a muzzle. Larger dogs require their own ticket — at half the price of a standard‑fare ticket. For regional day tickets (Länder‑Tickets), the dog counts as a fellow traveler and is charged as an additional person.
Where can tickets for dogs be purchased?
When traveling with a dog that requires a paid ticket, the German term “Hund” must be entered instead of a passenger when booking via Deutsche Bahn’s online shop.
What rules apply to guide dogs and assistance dogs?
Guide dogs and certified assistance dogs always travel free of charge and do not need to wear a muzzle on the train.
