Electric wheelchairs cannot be transported on alex trains. Manual wheelchairs exceeding 250 kg in total weight or wider than 63 cm also cannot be carried. The Mobility Centre will be happy to provide information on accessible connections offered by other transport operators.

For a barrier-free journey, early registration is required if you need assistance boarding or alighting. The Mobility Center should be informed at least 24 hours in advance.

More Information:
Monday to Friday 06:00 to 22:00,
Saturday to Sunday 08:00 to 20:00
As an alternative to phone or written registration, you can complete the booking, including any required assistance, via an accessible online form.
What assistance services are available at the stations?
To facilitate easier access to our trains, many regional and long‑distance stations across Germany are equipped with lifting platforms or ramps. In addition, numerous stations provide support from staff or volunteers of the station missions and other social service organizations.
However, since not every station can offer assistance at all times, we recommend contacting our Mobility Service Center before your journey to check whether boarding, alighting, or transfer assistance is available at your destination station at the desired time. Further information about stations can be found in the Bahnland Bayern station database.
Is boarding the replacement bus service barrier‑free?
Passengers with reduced mobility can generally be transported. However, without prior registration, it cannot be guaranteed that a suitable bus (e.g., low‑floor) will be available at the right time and place. Therefore, the journey should always be registered with the Mobility Service Center in advance.
Which information is required for registration?
For registration, we require the following information:
- Name and address of the traveling person (and email address, if applicable)
- Telephone number for potential follow‑up questions
- Mobility aids (type of wheelchair, weight, dimensions)
- Travel date, departure or arrival time, or train number
What accessible features are available on the alex?
We would like to provide all passengers with unrestricted seating and barrier-free boarding. However, due to the train’s construction and the lack of low-floor entry, it is unfortunately not possible for us to accommodate everyone without limitations.
Electric wheelchairs cannot be transported on the alex. Wheelchairs weighing more than 250 kg or wider than 63 cm also cannot be accommodated.
Every alex train has at least one combined 1st/2nd class car equipped with a mechanical folding ramp. This car is easily identifiable by the wheelchair symbol at the corresponding door.
Directly at the entrance, in the second-class area, there is a spacious compartment with three clearly marked seats for passengers with severe disabilities, two wheelchair spaces, and an accessible toilet. Our service staff ensure that these places are available when needed and are not used otherwise.
Since our staff have many operational tasks, they may need to be actively approached and asked for assistance. The transportation of wheelchairs under 250 kg must always be registered in advance with the Mobility Service Center so that additional staff are available on the platform – our service staff cannot manage this alone. In most cases, the Mobility Service Center will immediately suggest alternative travel options with other accessible transport providers.
Online
Tickets can be conveniently purchased online from Deutsche Bahn before the journey. An overview of the ticket options available on our trains can be found at the following link.
On the train
Our motto is: board – buy ticket – find your seat. Tickets can be purchased on board from our train staff on all alex trains at no extra charge (not valid for RVV and VGN network tickets). Even without advance purchase, your journey can start relaxed – the train staff will provide the right ticket on board.
Advance purchase
Tickets are also available at the Länderbahn customer center in Deggendorf, at DB travel centers, and at DB video travel centers at selected stations along the routes. You’ll receive personal advice and support in choosing the right ticket.

In the multipurpose area, spaces are available for bicycles. The bicycle pictogram on the entrance doors indicates the access. Bicycles must be secured using the available straps.
Can a bicycle be taken on the train?
On the alex, there are multipurpose areas where bicycles can be transported in limited capacity. These areas are marked on the outside with a bicycle symbol. Bicycles can be taken along if there is sufficient space and with a valid additional ticket. Strollers and passengers with reduced mobility (e.g., wheelchair users) have priority when using the available spaces. There is no entitlement to transport a bicycle.
Can an e‑bike be taken on the train?
Yes, e‑bikes with a power rating of up to 250 watts may be taken on board. However, the battery must remain installed in the bike and may not be removed or charged due to fire safety regulations.
Can an e‑scooter or folding bike be taken on the train?
Folding bikes and electric scooters can be taken on board free of charge when folded.
Are there times when taking bicycles on board is difficult?
Especially on weekends, during holiday periods, and at peak commuter times, our trains are often heavily occupied, making it frequently impossible to take bicycles on board. We therefore recommend avoiding peak times whenever possible. For guidance on travel times that are generally more suitable for bicycle transport, our customer service center will be happy to assist you.
What rules apply for taking bicycles on trains in the Czech Republic?
Bicycles in the Czech Republic must be reserved in advance and require an additional ticket. For more information, see Bicycle transport in the Czech Republic.
Children’s play areas in the gray alex coaches provide varied entertainment during the journey. Different play modules are available in some compartments. Children up to and including 14 years of age often travel free when accompanied. Luggage can be stored on the racks above the seats. If more space is needed, the multipurpose areas can be used. Luggage must be secured with the provided straps.
The map of stroller-friendly Bavarian railway stations provides a quick overview of which stations are accessible for passengers with strollers.
Dogs and other pets are also welcome on board. Special rules for transporting animals apply to ensure a comfortable journey for both humans and animals.
More information can be found in the terms of carriage and fare conditions
Do small dogs or other small animals need a ticket?
Small dogs and other small pets (up to the size of a domestic cat) do not require a ticket if they are transported in an appropriate carrier.
What regulations apply for larger dogs?
Out of consideration for other passengers, dogs must be kept on a leash and wear a muzzle. Larger dogs require their own ticket — at half the price of a standard‑fare ticket. For regional day tickets (Länder‑Tickets), the dog counts as a fellow traveler and is charged as an additional person.
Where can tickets for dogs be purchased?
When traveling with a dog that requires a paid ticket, the German term “Hund” must be entered instead of a passenger when booking via Deutsche Bahn’s online shop.
What rules apply to guide dogs and assistance dogs?
Guide dogs and certified assistance dogs always travel free of charge and do not need to wear a muzzle on the train.
