Summer Construction Works Cause Disruptions to Rail Services (RB/RE 23)
Extensive work in the track area and on other railway infrastructure by the infrastructure operator DB InfraGO will lead to several weeks of train cancellations on the oberpfalzbahn line RB 23 and the alex RE 23 between 27 June and 14 September 2026. Replacement buses will be provided instead. Depending on the construction phase and period, the closed sections of the line and the affected railway services will vary.
Section Marktredwitz – Weiden from 27 June – 15 August 2026 and from 24 August – 14 September 2026
No trains of the oberpfalzbahn line RB 23 will operate between Marktredwitz and Weiden. Passengers may instead use the hourly replacement bus service stopping at all intermediate stops. The journey time by bus between Weiden and Marktredwitz is 1 hour 23 minutes. Alternatively, Deutsche Bahn will provide express buses for the RE 2 every two hours (journey time: 50 minutes) without stopping in Wiesau.
The alex RE 23 train pair will be completely cancelled between Weiden and Hof during the periods mentioned above.
Section Schwandorf – Weiden – Marktredwitz from 16 August – 23 August 2026
For one week from 16 August to 23 August 2026, the section closed to rail traffic will be extended to Schwandorf. Hourly express buses will operate between Marktredwitz and Schwandorf with a stop in Weiden. The cancelled RB 23 services of the oberpfalzbahn will be replaced by buses stopping at all intermediate stations. Due to the length of the route, passengers will need to change from one replacement bus to another in Weiden.
During this week, the alex RE 23 train pair will be completely cancelled between Schwandorf and Hof.
Passengers are requested to check the locations of the rail replacement bus stops before starting their journey. These can be found on the oberpfalzbahn website, together with the valid timetable information. The information is also available in all common passenger information systems.
Passengers are generally advised not to bring bicycles on replacement buses, as transport cannot be guaranteed due to limited capacity.
